Clinobrite Filtration Filter Media 25kg
Clinobrite Water Filter Media
What is Clinobrite?
Clinobrite filter sand is a specific type of Zeolite mineral exclusively extracted in South Africa by Pratley. Clinobrite (Zeolite) is a direct replacement for ordinary pool filter sand and is cost saver by scavenging unwanted ammonia from pool water and reservoirs by reducing the chlorine consumption. Clinobrite is a true 21st century water filter medium with both ion exchange and superior micro-filtration capabilities.
Unlike ordinary silica filter sand, the substructure surface of Clinobrite granules are not smooth. Clinobrite (Zeolite) media grains attract and trap extremely fine dirt and sediment particles and algae onto its surface and not just between the filter media granules like ordinary quartz sand. In good practise, a Clinobrite pool filter can remove 40 - 50% more particles than an outdated sand or glass filter media. Clinobrite filter media also filters out much smaller particle sizes than sand or glass. This greatly improves the clarity of your pool and gives much longer service cycles between backwash operations. Clinobrite even has the capabilities to trap the tiny cysts of diarrhoea causing cryptosporidium which are becoming a health problem in municipal waters throughout the world.
Unlike sand or glass water filter media, Clinobrite serves as a filter on the atomic scale by absorbing ammonium ions (NH4+) from water and this consequently eliminates algae. This is due to a strong negative charge that exists within the Clinobrite Zeolite sand filter media structure that attracts positively charged cation contaminants such as ammonia and holds them within the Clinobrite structure.
Discerning pool owners and industrial filter operators use Clinobrite as their preferred water purification filter media.
An average sized pool sand filter tank will use 2 x 25 litre bags of Clinobrite and is compatible with salt water swimming pool filters.
Clinobrite Features
- Clinobrite removes 40-50% more dirt than old, outdated sand or glass filter media
- Clinobrite is available in 25 kg bags
- Clinobrite can remove small cysts of cryptosporidium which are becoming a health problem in municipal water worldwide. This is a parasitic disease that can cause intestinal infection and diarrhoea.
How to Regenerate Clinobrite Sand Filter Media
Unsaturated Clinobrite never seizes to filter. Clinobrite filter media absorbs ammonia from your pool water on a 24 hour basis. Consequently over time, the Clinobrite will become saturated with ammonia, and needs to be regenerated. It is recommended that Clinobrite is regenerated every 6 / 12 months in order keep Clinobrite's ammonia removal capability optimal. The laps between regenerations can vary depending on bathing loads. More frequent regenerations are required with higher bathing loads or during frequent thunderstorm activity. Use a good quality ammonia test kit to continuously monitor pool waters ammonia levels. Keep in mind that Clinobrite will still maintain effective mechanical filtration to ordinary sand, even if the Clinobrite filter system is never regenerate.
Regeneration of Clinobrite is an easy process:
- Switch off the filter pump.
- Unscrew the lid of the filter tank.
- Drain the water completely from the filter tank.
- Add a solution of brine (10% salt solution or 1kg rock salt per 10 litres water) to the Clinobrite filter media so that the Clinobrite is fully submerged in the salt solution.
- Let the Clinobrite to soak in the brine for 24 hours
- The next morning, screw back on the filter tank lid and turn the pump valve to the backwash cycle and backwash for 3 minutes.
- Select the rinse cycle for a further 2 minutes.
- Turn the pump valve back to "filter."
- The Clinobrite filter media is now rejuvenated and ready for removing ammonia.
Don't want to regenerate Clinobrite Filter Media?
Not a problem! Clinobrite will still hold its effective mechanical filtration properties exceeding ordinary sand or glass. Remember for ammonia removal, the product needs to be regenerated periodically.
When to replace Clinobrite
For standard bathing loads, a replacement can be done once every 3 years or longer. A complete media change of Clinobrite once per year is recommended for swimming pools with high bathing loads. This is due to oils, sweat and sun screen lotion build-up that can clog the Clinobrite filter medium and prevent it from performing at its best. These oils do not wash off with simple backwashes.
Using Clinobrite in salt water swimming pools
Clinobrite is applicable for use in salt water swimming pools. However due to the higher salt content in the water, the ammonia removal feature of the zeolite may be reduced. Clinobrite will still maintain its mechanical filtration abilities.
Value added info about Clinobrite
Opposed to regenerating Clinobrite, you may choose to fully replace it with new Clinobrite. Simply scatter the old "ammonia-saturated" Clinobrite on a lawn and watch the grass grow! Used Clinobrite acts as the perfect slow release fertilizer for lawn and flower beds, best of all, and zeolite is completely natural.
